The walk up to Roy’s Peak in Wanaka is about 5 miles and took us around 3 hours (with Jerome not feeling one hundred percent).
I’d count the summit as one of the peak experiences of my life. A literal feeling of being on top of the world. As you can see, it was an amazing day too.
I was grateful we didn’t attempt the ascent the previous night like I wanted to originally. “I could do 5 miles in the two hours before we lose the light”. That would have been silly.
This photo captures all the layers of beauty and colour of the landscape, and it has a subject! I wish I’d captured the boy on the ridge in a slightly different frame of motion though.
I’m continually impressed by this physically-tiny 14-42mm zoom lens. It seems to capture great detail in the background and foreground even at wider focal lengths.
